Research in Industrial Projects for Students (RIPS) 2017 JUNE 19 - AUGUST 18, 2017



The Research in Industrial Projects for Students (RIPS) Program provides an opportunity for talented undergraduate students to work in teams on a real-world research projects proposed by sponsors from industry or the public sector. The student team, with support from their academic mentor and industry mentor, will research the problem and present their results, both orally and in writing, at the end of the program.
Duration:
The program is nine weeks. IPAM provides each undergraduate student with a travel allowance and a stipend of $3,500. Housing and most meals are also included.
Stipend:
RIPS-LA students will live in residence halls on the UCLA campus and will work at IPAM. We expect to have nine projects. The project sponsors are announced in March. Projects vary, but all involve some math, statistics, data, and computing.
International students, including students attending a university outside the U.S., are eligible to apply for RIPS-LA, as are graduating seniors. Please see the FAQ page for more information.
Deadline:
The application deadline is February 14th, 2017 by 11:59PM EST (8:59PM PST).

You will need to fill out the application form, and submit your resume (or CV), your transcript(s), and two letters of recommendation.
You must have uploaded all your supporting documents and have a complete application by the deadline to be considered for the program.
Accepted candidates will be notified in early March.

RIPS Los Angeles
RIPS-LA runs from June 19 - August 18, 2017. Students will live in residence halls on the UCLA campus and will work at IPAM. We expect to have nine projects, but the sponsors and projects are yet to be selected.
International students are eligible to apply for RIPS-LA. Those with F-1 visas who are enrolled at a U.S. university must obtain a “CPT” in order to participate in the program. This will likely require you to register for an internship or independent study class through your school. Please ask your international student office if you qualify for a CPT before applying to RIPS.
RIPS Hong Kong
In collaboration with Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), IPAM recruits eight U.S. students to work on cross-cultural teams with eight HKUST students on four projects, each sponsored by a company based in the region. The program is nine weeks (June 12 - August 11, 2017).

U.S. citizens and permanent residents are eligible for RIPS-Hong Kong. English is the only language required for participation. The local students, academic mentors and industry mentors will speak English.
The beautiful HKUST campus overlooks beautiful Port Shelter on the Clear Water Bay peninsula, several miles from the city center. Public transportation is convenient and inexpensive. Weekends are available for sightseeing. For more information: see the RIPS-Hong Kong web page.
